Inspiring interprofessional education
Interprofessional education (IPE) is a paedagogical approach for preparing students of the health professions to provide patient care in a collaborative team environment. Malnutrition and dietary treatment in older adults
With an ageing population and growing pressures on health and social care systems, there is a need to maintain quality of life and independence in older adults. Good nutrition plays a huge role in maintaining health, prevention of malnutrition and its consequences. Preventing malnutrition, sarcopenia and frailty will ultimately enable older people to remain active and independent in their activities of daily living. Our session will discuss nutritional challenges faced in this population group and strategies to improve nutritional intake and nutritional status.

Breaking the boundaries between theory and practice in oncology
Poor nutrition affects the outcome of people with cancer. In this session the influence of cancer cachexia and sarcopenia on tolerance to cancer treatment will be presented. The holistic nutritional assessment and management of the person with cancer presents challenges for the dietitian. Alternations in taste can have a significant impact on intake of food and fluids. Taste, from a research and Dietetic perspective, will be discussed. The specialist role of the Oncology Dietitian will be explored from the results of a European survey and future perspectives will be discussed.

The Dairy Matrix: a new approach to understanding the health effects of food
Food can no longer be considered as simply the sum of its nutrients but its complex physical structure also has to be taken into account. For milk and dairy foods too, it is increasingly recognised that the health impact extends beyond the individual nutrients. The unique combination of nutrients and bioactive factors, and how they interact with each other in the dairy matrix, combine to produce the overall effect on health.

Involvement of dietitians in primary care
The review of the scientific literature concludes that investment in dietitians in primary care provides high returns.
